Pulitzer Prize Winner To Be Inducted Into Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame 2024

Congratulations to Erwin (Skeeter) Hagler, who will be a special inductee into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in March, 2024.

Skeeter is a remarkable photographer with a long line of incredible achievements, including the very special well deserved honor of being a Pulitzer Prize winner for his photo essay on the Texas Cowboys. His photographs bring the cowboy culture to life and make you feel as though you are right there on the range or in the bunkhouse. The outstanding photos tell a spectacular story alone without words.  He seems to have such an eye for capturing such special raw moments, such as that of the enduring cowboy spirit ...and that of the country western cowboy culture.

Skeeter is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. He worked for the UT campus newspaper there, called The Daily Texan, which perhaps spurred him later onward after graduation, to a fantastic career in photography. That includes working for the Fort Worth Star Telegram and Dallas Times Herald newspapers, where he got to travel the world on assignment, and led to the winning of many awards including "Photographer of the Year" several times.  As a graduate from The School of Architecture at UT, it is interesting that he chose afterwards to follow hIs overwhelming passion for photography, which truly led to such an amazing career.  He really is an incredible example of what can happen when people are following their heart and doing what they love, even when they have been on a previous trajectory. That passion has certainly been displayed in his impressive photographs throughout the years.  He has captured moments that will live on forever through his highly regarded photography, which has also been published in several books as well, one even co-published with Red Steagall. Skeeter had many photo essays that he did for the Dallas Times Herald's Sunday Magazine, which includes the special one on the modern day Texas Cowboy, where he actually spent months living on and visiting the Pitchfork, JA, and 6666 ranches. He formed many enduring friendships during that time and continues to talk to those friends still today. That particular photo essay on the Texas Cowboy later won him the Pulitzer Prize for photography. Since then, he has been sought after to share his works & experiences from living & photographing the lives of working Cowboys.  He has had speaking engagements and exhibits throughout the U.S., as well as in other countries, to bring a special perspective and understanding to people through his photos depicting the lives of Texas Cowboys. Also notable, today he continues to live and work on a large ranch in Texas, and continues to do what he loves as well as what he is passionate about... photography and sharing about his many great worldwide experiences, especially that of the Texas Cowboy way of life.

Skeeter will be joining a distinguished group of previous inductees into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, who also have a long list of achievements that have played a special role in keeping this great heritage and spirit alive.

From WILD HORSE BOOTS and all of us here in Texas, "Congratulations Mr. Hagler for a life well lived with passion for what you love, an incredible dedicated career obtaining excellence in your field, and for this very special well deserved honor of being a 2024 inductee into The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame!"  This special presentation and banquet will take place in March at the famed Bill Bob's Texas located in the great city of Fort Worth!
