What an epic display of the finest horses, the most brilliant ladies hats, long steeped traditions, and the most exciting two minutes of sporting history at the Kentucky Derby on May 4th, 2024! Yes, it was an incredible day of horse racing, culminating with a neck in neck race down to the wire in the final few seconds with one grand horse and rider inching out a miraculous longshot win! What an amazing accomplishment for all of the long hours and hard work involved in all aspects with horse, rider, trainer, and owners to win this ultimate race at the breathtakingly beautiful Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Spectators from all over the world gathered for the day of pageantry in their finest attire, (which included the most elegant and ornate ladies hats), as they enjoyed mint juleps (made with that famous Kentucky bourbon), along with other special traditions which added to this very special atmosphere on this grand "Derby Day...Run For The Roses!" The great pomp and circumstance starting from the gorgeous singing of the national anthem by Wynonna Judd... to the first lovely, ear piercing bugle call...along with mounting anticipation building throughout the day for the last big race...then seeing it culminate with a photo finish win ...and ending with the beautiful presentation of all the gorgeous red roses... all certainly added to the elaborate fanfare among the finest horses, jockeys, trainers, owners, and race fans from all over the world. For every owner, the ultimate is seeing their horse and jockey end up in the winner's circle draped in all of those red roses. This "Run For The Roses" was extra special being that it was the 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby. It certainly did not disappoint...as it was definitely among the best, most exciting two minutes in sporting history! Congratulations to the outstanding horse known by his trainer as an "old soul" named Mystik Dan and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. who won the race by a nose! This phenomenal race horse has several Louisiana ties with also the jockey being from Lafayette, along with the owners being Shreveport natives. One of the owners, Sharilyn Gasaway, commented that having a horse in the Kentucky Derby was the "dream of a lifetime." As we all know, the excitement and jubilation of the 150th Kentucky Derby will long be felt and the visions of that sweet victory will remain etched in all of our memories from this truly extraordinary, quite memorable day...a special day that will never be forgotten!
